Philadelphia 76ers center Ariel Hukporti, 24, will miss the 2026‑27 season after tearing his right Achilles tendon during the preseason opener against the New York Knicks on Monday night, the New York Post reported.

The injury occurred in the first quarter at Xfinity Mobile Arena, and an MRI the following day confirmed the tear. The team said Hukporti will undergo surgery.

Former Knicks teammate Karl‑Anthony Towns helped him off the court, and teammates Jalen Brunson and Knicks coach Mike Brown expressed sympathy, with Brunson calling the injury “definitely heartbreaking.” ESPN noted the Sixers could apply for a $1.7 million disabled player exception but would need to waive another contract to replace him.
