Dubai student launches Alzimate app to aid Alzheimer’s patients and caregivers

The app, built by a Dubai high‑schooler, already has over 400 downloads and lets families create personalized memory profiles.

Grade‑12 student Ghaliya Wahby of the American School of Dubai has released Alzimate, an app designed to help people living with Alzheimer’s disease reconnect with familiar faces, voices and memories, according to Khaleej Times.

What happened

Wahby developed the app after observing her grandfather’s increasing difficulty recalling the names of his grandchildren. The app went live in early October 2026 and, as of the publication date, has recorded more than 400 downloads.

What the reports add

Khaleej Times explains that Alzimate lets families create personalized profiles that can include photographs, cherished memories, important contacts, voice recordings, music playlists, medication details and other information that may make daily life more familiar for a person with Alzheimer’s. The outlet notes that the app is intended both as a memory‑aid for patients and a central information hub for caregivers.

What was said

Wahby told Khaleej Times, “The moment I realised there was a real disconnect was when he started struggling to remember who his grandchildren were… It really stayed with me because I could see how his memory loss was starting to affect his relationships with the people closest to him.” She added that watching her grandfather stop calling her by name made her consider whether technology could bridge that gap.

How it came about

Wahby first noticed her grandfather’s memory decline when she was about seven years old. Over the years, his inability to recognize family members and recall personal details prompted her to think about a digital solution. The personal motivation, combined with her schooling at the American School of Dubai, led to the development of Alzimate, which she launched while still in Grade 12.
