Investigation Discovery’s three‑part true‑crime docuseries Unmasking a Monster: Aileen Wuornos premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. PT/ET, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What happened
The series airs back‑to‑back, running until 11 p.m. PT/ET, and follows serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Actress Morag Peacock portrays Wuornos using an AI‑mask tool that recreates the killer’s appearance.
What the reports add
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the live broadcast can be accessed through DirecTV (with a five‑day free trial), Philo (seven‑day trial), Sling or Hulu + Live TV. It also states that the episodes will stream live and on‑demand via HBO Max, though HBO Max itself offers no free trial; however, customers who subscribe to DirecTV’s Entertainment, Choice or Ultimate Signature packages can claim three complimentary months of HBO Max.
What was said
The outlet does not quote any individual, but describes the AI‑mask technology as “making actress Morag Peacock look exactly like the serial killer.”
How it came about
This marks Investigation Discovery’s first true‑crime series to employ AI‑generated facial reconstruction, a technique highlighted in the network’s recent promotional material.
