The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) announced that a company operating in the Al Dhafra region has been fined Dh150,000 for repeatedly damaging rare desert formations known as Al Barqa and for failing to obey orders to halt the activities.

EAD said the violations harmed a sensitive natural habitat; the flat‑topped Al Barqa hills have formed over millions of years and support wildlife. The agency warned that damage from vehicles or other encroachments cannot be repaired.

Inspection teams will continue regular visits across Abu Dhabi to identify breaches and enforce compliance. Under existing regulations, offenders may settle by paying 75 % of the fine, but settlement is barred for repeat offences unless a year has passed since the prior violation.
