Abdul‑Malik Olajuwon, a 6‑foot‑5 guard and top‑60 recruit in the 2027 class, announced on Thursday that he will play college basketball at Southern Methodist University (SMU), the New York Post reported.

Olajuwon, who currently plays for IMG Academy in Florida and is ranked No. 66 by 247Sports, said SMU’s belief in him and their system match his style. He added that coach Andy Enfield’s laid‑back yet intense approach appealed to him, noting the coach’s ability to command attention in the gym.

The son of NBA Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon received offers from ten other schools, including Minnesota, Kansas State and Texas Tech, before deciding on SMU. The Mustangs finished the previous season 20‑14 and earned an at‑large NCAA tournament bid.
