Bhubaneswar's Utkal Hospital has opened a state‑of‑the‑art sleep laboratory, inaugurated by chairman Dr Aditya Kumar Samal in the presence of senior officials including managing director Dr Pragyan Ranjan Ghadei and CEO BK Subodh Singh, according to New Indian Express.

The lab provides polysomnography, a painless overnight test that records brain waves, heart rate and other physiological parameters to diagnose conditions such as snoring, insomnia, apnea and abnormal sleep behaviours.

Doctors at the hospital note that 20‑30% of the population experience sleep‑related problems, with risk factors including fatty diets, substance abuse, hypertension, diabetes, obesity and advancing age. They advise patients with symptoms to consult a physician for a sleep study.
