The Social Security Administration announced that it now has 105 million online accounts, matching its fiscal‑2026 projection, according to biometricupdate.com.
SSA’s 2026‑2030 strategic plan set an Agency Priority Goal of 110 million accounts by the end of fiscal 2027, and a modest target of 105 million by the end of fiscal 2026, which the agency says it has reached.
Earlier, SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano had pledged to reach 200 million account holders by the end of calendar 2026; the agency has not ruled out that ambition but gave no new deadline.
Since June 7 2025, users must sign in via Login.gov or ID.me, with identity proofing required for those without existing credentials. One enrollment path with ID.me includes biometric verification, as detailed in an SSA guide.
