Trump calls Texas Senate candidate James Talarico “missing in action” after flu diagnosis

Trump’s social‑media attack on Talarico comes as the Democrat battles Republican Ken Paxton in a tight Texas Senate race.

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday night that Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico was “MISSING IN ACTION,” referring to the Texas candidate’s recent flu diagnosis that kept him off the campaign trail.

Trump’s message asked, “Where is he? What is wrong with him? Bad rumors are coming out,” and suggested the illness was linked to Talarico’s diet, claiming the Democrat “eats too much meat” and is “throwing up all over the place.” The post also urged Talarico to debate Republican nominee Ken Paxton, a request the Democrat echoed on X, writing, “President Trump just said Ken Paxton should debate. I agree. Ball’s in your court.”

Earlier in the week, Trump held a rally for Paxton in which he called Talarico a “‘dumocrat’ communist” and mocked rumors that the candidate was vegan, a claim Talarico denied on a May podcast. Talarico told the U.S. Hispanic Business Council that he had been diagnosed with the flu after urgent‑care treatment and was isolating to avoid infecting others.
