US limits airport travel for staff in Saudi Arabia after recent attacks
American government workers must get approval to fly in Saudi Arabia after aerial attacks prompted extended airport suspensions.
By Felo News Desk · Published
The US Mission in Saudi Arabia issued a security alert on Oct 13, telling American citizens and US government employees to obtain special authorisation from the Chief of Mission before using any Saudi airport.
The alert follows recent aerial attacks that led Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation to extend the suspension of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh until Oct 17, while Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz and Dammam’s King Fahd airports stay open with some delays.
Travelers were urged to check flight status with airlines, consider private cars, trains or buses, and note that neighbouring Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Qatar and the UAE airports remain operational.
