The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that on Wednesday morning several rounds of small‑arms fire struck its position near Kfar Shouba on the UN‑drawn Blue Line separating Lebanon and Israel. UNIFIL reported that the incident caused no casualties and that it is investigating the attack.
In a statement, UNIFIL described the incident as a "deliberate attack" that endangers peacekeepers and reiterated its mandate to monitor the border. The force, which includes about 7,500 personnel from roughly 50 countries, was created after Israel’s 1978 invasion and has been renewed annually, most recently extended despite U.S. and Israeli pressure to end the mission by the end of 2025.
