The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on Monday demanding an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Sudan and extending the mandate of its independent fact‑finding mission, Al Jazeera reported.

The 47‑member body voted 28‑10, with nine abstentions, to prolong the mission that gathers evidence of abuses by both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The resolution also called for an independent monitoring mechanism and the restoration of basic infrastructure.

In the same session, the council condemned recent drone strikes and aerial bombardments that have killed civilians, including an air attack on a World Food Programme convoy in North Kordofan that killed one person, according to the statement.

UN figures cited in the resolution show more than 1,100 people were killed by drone strikes in the first five months of the year. The council also warned that illicit financial networks, illegal arms transfers and foreign mercenaries continue to fuel the conflict.
