Abu Dhabi – The United Arab Emirates has placed around 27,000 workers who are exposed to ionising radiation on a national database, the National Dose Registry (NDR), according to Gulf News.

The registry, discussed at the 48th meeting of the Radiation Protection Committee chaired by the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), consolidates dose records using unique national identifiers. It aims to monitor cumulative exposure, flag unusual readings and analyse trends nationwide.

In addition to the NDR, the committee reviewed a 24‑month programme to strengthen radiological monitoring of drinking water, progress on an online radiological monitoring platform, and work on the UAE National Radon Indoor Concentration Survey, which studies indoor radon levels.

The meeting also covered updates to national reference levels for medical imaging, with the UAE National Diagnostic Reference Levels project completing data collection from all seven emirates to help optimise radiation doses in healthcare.
