Spar South Africa uses pink‑capped water bottles for breast‑cancer awareness
The retailer’s private‑label water bottles carry pink caps to signal a breast‑cancer statistic and fund Cancervive’s programmes.

Spar South Africa is turning its 500ml Still Water bottles into a breast‑cancer awareness tool for October 2026. One in every twelve caps is pink, representing the statistic that one in twelve women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the campaign brief.
What happened
The initiative, developed with the nonprofit Cancervive, runs throughout October in all participating Spar stores, Spar2U outlets and on the retailer’s social channels. Every purchase of the 500ml bottle, regardless of cap colour, contributes to Cancervive’s education and community‑support programmes. The campaign ends on 31 October 2026.
What was said
“We wanted to create a campaign that gives people a reason to stop and engage with a subject that can be difficult to talk about,” Mpudi Maubane, head of PR, communications and sponsorship at The Spar Group, told Bizcommunity.
“Awareness can help people recognise changes in their bodies, seek medical advice and have conversations they may otherwise avoid,” said Marlene Notje, CEO and founder of Cancervive.
