Former President Donald Trump told reporters on the White House South Lawn that Ukraine should replace President Volodymyr Zelensky with a new negotiator to end the war with Russia. He referenced his February 2025 Oval Office meeting with Zelensky, saying the Ukrainian leader "should've had this war settled a long time ago" if he had listened to Trump.

Trump added that the United States has "given a lot to Ukraine" while "they've given nothing to us," and suggested it was time for someone else to negotiate on Kyiv's behalf. He also said he was open to meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping next month during his trip to China for the ASEAN summit.
