True Food Kitchen, the health‑focused restaurant chain backed by Oprah Winfrey, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday and announced the closure of three Southern California locations – the Westfield mall in Century City, The Point shopping center in El Segundo, and the Westfield UTC mall in San Diego. The closures are part of a broader shutdown of nine restaurants nationwide that served their last customers on Sunday.

The chain, founded in Phoenix in 2008 by Sam Fox and Andrew Weil, now operates 34 restaurants across 14 states, with five remaining locations in California, including Pasadena and Newport Beach. Bankruptcy filings show the company owes more than $77,000 in rent at Fashion Island and roughly $42 million in total debt. Chief Executive Jeff Chandler said the court‑supervised sale process is "the best path forward to simplify the business and focus on what we do best."
