TikTok launches AI Shopping Assistant and Buy Direct checkout

The platform’s new AI assistant answers product queries while Buy Direct speeds up checkout for participating brands.

By Felo News Desk · Published

TikTok announced new e‑commerce tools that let shoppers stay inside the app from product discovery to purchase. The AI‑powered Shopping Assistant lets users ask about size, shipping or availability, while the Buy Direct feature enables one‑click checkout with saved payment details.

What happened

The company said the Shopping Assistant will keep conversation context, drawing answers from merchant‑provided data. When a shopper is ready, Buy Direct routes the transaction through partners such as Shopify, Salesforce, Shoplazza and Stripe, allowing purchases from brands that do not use TikTok Shop.

What the reports add

Independent reported that TikTok estimates 54 million U.S. consumers have bought a product after watching a video. A SmartCustomer survey of nearly 1,200 U.S. shoppers found 76 percent used AI for a purchase in the past year, but 89 percent distrust AI recommendations.

What was said

"I am concerned for our retailers – that they’re going to lose everything between trigger and purchase," said Nikki Baird, VP of strategy and product at Aptos, as quoted by Independent.

How it came about
