The new grade targets demanding sour‑service applications in the Montney and Duvernay formations.

Tenaris announced on Wednesday that it is now producing its proprietary TN 95EY steel grade at its Sault Ste. Marie Industrial Centre, aiming to serve Western Canadian oil and gas operators.
What happened
The Luxembourg‑based company said the grade, designed for high‑pressure, high‑temperature wells, is now manufactured domestically after adapting existing processes and completing extensive testing.
What the reports add
Tenaris noted that it has invested more than C$355 million in Canadian operations since 2020 and, in May 2026, secured a C$306 million joint investment with federal and Ontario governments to modernise its facilities.
What was said
“As energy operators advance into more demanding environments, customers are looking for pipe engineered to deliver reliable performance under increasingly challenging conditions,” Tenaris Canada president Martín Castro said in the release. “The TN 95EY steel grade delivers the strength and performance needed for these applications and producing it in Canada allows us to respond directly to our customers’ needs while strengthening our commitment to Canadian manufacturing.” Commercial Vice‑President Pablo Toy added that domestic production “adds another locally made option while connecting domestic manufacturing capabilities with our country’s energy industry, from coast to coast.”
How it came about
Tenaris’ Canadian footprint grew after a 2018 lay‑off linked to U.S. tariffs, prompting a strategic push that has now culminated in the new grade’s launch.
