Hyderabad – Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla attended the Saddula Bathukamma celebrations at Tank Bund on Sunday, serving as chief guest. According to Deccan Chronicle, he urged citizens to curb water waste and adopt conservation practices amid an El Niño‑linked drought risk.
Shukla described Bathukamma as a symbol of Telangana’s cultural heritage and women’s role in nature stewardship. He warned that below‑average rainfall this year signals a potential water crisis and called for rainwater harvesting, construction of percolation pits, pond preservation and groundwater replenishment.
The governor also advised farmers to shift to crops suited to limited water availability, stressing that water protection is a shared responsibility, not solely a government task. He concluded by extending greetings for Bathukamma, Navaratri and Vijayadashami.
