At the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards held on 27 September in Los Angeles, Taylor Swift won Video of the Year and received the first‑ever Artist Director award, cementing her status as the most decorated performer in the ceremony’s history.

Swift, who had already tied Beyoncé with 30 VMA trophies, took the night’s top prize for her single “The Fate of Ophelia” and was presented with the Artist Director honour by host Snoop Dogg. She thanked Dolly Parton in a brief dedication.

During the ceremony, Swift also premiered the music video for her new single “Patient Zero.” The clip stars actors Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson and was shot by cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki.

Madonna, the night’s most‑nominated artist with 13 nods, walked away with seven trophies, including Artist of the Year, Best Dance and Best Collaboration. She opened the show with a medley from her new album and performed alongside Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX.

Other performers included Raye, who performed a tribute to George Michael, and a surprise reunion between Swift and Madonna inside the Peacock Theatre, footage of which was captured by the Daily Mail.
