South Africa's DMPR lifts all fuel prices from 11 Oct
Effective 11 Oct, South Africa’s DMPR raises retail prices for all fuel grades, citing global oil price spikes and inventory constraints.
By Felo News Desk · Published
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) said fuel prices will rise on Wednesday, 11 October, across all grades. Petrol 93 and 95 will increase by R3.12 and R3.33 per litre respectively, diesel by R2.84 (0.05% sulphur) or R3.24 (0.005% sulphur), and illuminating paraffin wholesale by R3.58 per litre. The single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will go up by R4.77, while LPG will see a 42‑cent rise nationally and a 48‑cent rise in the Western Cape.
DMPR attributed the hikes to the average Brent crude price climbing from $87.89 to $101, ongoing US‑Iran tensions, uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz, higher shipping costs and falling inventories. International product prices for petrol, diesel and paraffin rose because of lower global stockpiles, adding 329.07 c/l, 280.17 c/l and 357.23 c/l respectively to basic fuel prices. The rand’s recent strengthening reduced those contributions by about 0.2 c/l for each fuel.
