Skydance and Spain’s Movistar Plus announced on Tuesday a two‑year expansion of their strategic alliance, adding co‑development and co‑production of original series under a joint Movistar Plus‑HBO Original label, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

What happened

The agreement continues the existing distribution of HBO Max and Warner Bros. theatrical releases on Movistar Plus, adds the distribution of former Discovery TV channels now part of Skydance TV, and introduces co‑development and co‑production of series that will be distributed globally by HBO Max and Skydance. The first two projects to carry the joint label are the series “Veredicto” and an untitled second series. The second series is being developed by Carles Porta and Los Moriarti and will draw on concepts titled “Maspalomas,” “Marco” and “The Endless Trench.”

What the reports add

  • Variety lists a full cast for “Veredicto,” including Nagore Aranburu, Ernesto Alterio, Alba Flores, Omar Ayuso, Secun de la Rosa, Alfredo Castro, Marc Soler, Júlia Mascort, Cris Blanco and Mamen Duch.
  • The Hollywood Reporter repeats the same cast details and adds that the second series will star Anna Castillo, Pol López and Eduard Fernández.
  • Both outlets note that financial terms were not disclosed.
  • The Hollywood Reporter emphasizes that the initiative will expand the national and international reach of Spanish stories and reinforce Movistar Plus’ commitment to high‑quality original content.

What was said

“This agreement strengthens our long‑standing strategic partnership with Skydance and allows us to continue offering our customers one of the most comprehensive entertainment propositions in the market, combining the best user experience with some of the most recognized content and brands in the audiovisual industry,” said Alfonso Gómez Palacio, CEO of Movistar Plus (Variety; The Hollywood Reporter).
“Great stories have the power to bring audiences together around the world, and this expanded alliance with Movistar Plus will allow us to continue bringing Spanish viewers some of the most influential franchises, films, and series in our industry. From iconic cinematic universes to original productions with the potential to become global phenomena, we share with Movistar Plus the ambition to deliver outstanding entertainment experiences and support a new generation of creators and storytellers,” said Alessandro Araimo, managing director & executive VP, Southern Europe at Skydance (Variety; The Hollywood Reporter).

How it came about

The expanded partnership builds on the existing distribution deal between Skydance and Movistar Plus, first noted by Felo News in its September 30 coverage of Mubi acquiring global streaming rights to Movistar Plus series “La Mesías” and “Riot Police.” It also follows recent corporate changes at Skydance highlighted in Felo’s October 2 report on George Cheeks’s anticipated broader TV oversight after the Paramount‑Warner merger.
