Mubi announced it has secured worldwide streaming rights to two Movistar Plus International series – the cult‑style drama “La Mesías” by Los Javis and the police‑procedural “Riot Police” by director Rodrigo Sorogoyen – according to Variety.
The acquisitions were revealed during the first day of trading at Madrid’s Iberseries & Platino Industria forum, where Movistar Plus showcased a slate of titles ahead of October’s MIPCOM. Variety noted that the deals were part of 33 new agreements unveiled at the event.
“La Mesías,” a Movistar Plus Original, blends psychodrama, sci‑fi, procedural and musical elements across multiple timelines, exploring a messianic mother’s psychological trauma. “Riot Police,” a six‑part series that premiered at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2020, follows a police squad under internal investigation after a botched eviction, mixing genre with social commentary.
The series have already attracted secondary deals: “Riot Police” has closed early agreements with HBO Latin America and Canal+ in France. Key territories for the Mubi deal were announced by Variety in July.
