Residents near Shivaji Park said the CJP rally disrupted daily life and violated rules, prompting criticism from poet Javed Akhtar.

On Friday, residents of buildings surrounding Mumbai's Shivaji Park gathered to object to a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) rally that began around 4 p.m., citing noise pollution, inconvenience and the forced closure of nearby establishments.

The protest, which attracted thousands despite lacking police permission, was described by locals as a disruption to normal activities. Some residents clarified that they did not oppose the CJP’s agenda, only the manner of the demonstration.

Poet‑lyricist Javed Akhtar posted on X that he welcomed the residents’ concerns about noise, adding a sarcastic remark that they would likely raise the same objection whenever a political party holds a meeting at the park. His wife, actress Shabana Azmi, participated in the CJP rally and addressed the crowd.
