Rehman said the PPP is ready to sign a counter‑terrorism pact, but provincial leaders have not supported it.

Senator Sherry Rehman told a joint parliamentary sitting on Thursday that terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have risen 195 percent over the past two years and that political parties must unite to confront the threat.

Rehman said the Pakistan Peoples Party persuaded the government to open talks with the Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf, praising PTI’s federal team and barrister Gohar Ali Khan for sincere participation. She noted the talks covered a written agreement, a joint declaration and confidence‑building measures, but criticised the provincial PTI leadership for not joining, arguing any counter‑terrorism accord needs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s involvement.

The senator urged the provincial government to strengthen police and the Counter‑Terrorism Department, warned that the danger lies just 16 kilometres away, and recalled the PPP’s sacrifices, including the deaths of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and party workers in past attacks.
