Federal Minister Amir Muqam accuses Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of failing to curb terrorism

Muqam alleges the provincial government is linked to militants and prioritises politics over security.

By Felo News Desk · Published

Federal Minister Amir Muqam told media in Peshawar that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has failed to address terrorism, accusing Chief Minister Sohail Afridi of favouring political demands over public safety.

Muqam said residents have long faced terrorism and that the provincial administration’s approach suggests links with militant elements. He criticised Afridi’s call for stronger anti‑terror action as insufficient, and warned that attempts to control the inspector general and chief secretary could undermine police morale.

The minister also opposed provincial legislation he described as unconstitutional and questioned the government’s willingness to engage with the Taliban and Afghanistan. He noted that the PTI‑planned long march, originally set for September 27, was postponed to October 4 due to limited participation.

Muqam added that governor’s rule remains a legal option for KP and said the federal government will continue monitoring the province’s security situation, especially after recent attacks such as the deadly Darazinda incident in Dera Ismail Khan.
