Dubai – A fan in the United Arab Emirates announced on social media that he had named his newborn daughter Arwa in honour of former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi’s youngest child. The fan, identified as Hamas, wrote, “Alhamdulillah blessed with a baby girl. Being an Afridi fan, I’ve named her ‘ARWA’,” and thanked Afridi for his on‑field and charitable contributions.
Shahid Afridi, popularly known as “Lala,” responded with a congratulatory message: “Mubarak ho (Congratulations), Hamas. May Allah bless little Arwa with good health and a happy life. Lots of prayers for her.” The exchange highlights the continued admiration for Afridi, whose career spanned more than two decades and who now runs the Shahid Afridi Foundation, focusing on healthcare and education in Pakistan.
The name Arwa matches that of Afridi’s fifth daughter, who was born in February 2020. The fan expressed that he could not “pay back” Afridi for his inspiration and service both on and off the field.
