Sealand launches digital product passports for bags

The initiative tags eligible bags with a scannable label that reveals material origins and links to a 10‑year repair guarantee.

By Felo News Desk · Published

South African lifestyle brand Sealand has rolled out Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for eligible bags, the company said on 15 October 2026. The passports, created with ITL Intelligent Label Solutions, give each bag a unique digital identity that owners can access by scanning a durable label with a smartphone.

What happened

Sealand’s first DPPs cover MajiTex and yacht sail bags manufactured from August 2026 onward. The passports display information about the bag’s materials and origins, let customers register ownership, and activate a lost‑and‑found function. Registration also unlocks the brand’s Evergreen Guarantee, offering ten years of free repairs.

What the reports add

The article notes that the project began in 2025 when Sealand partnered with ITL to develop the technology. ITL supplied the labelling and infrastructure, while Sealand coordinated across its supplier network, manufacturing partners and internal operations teams. The rollout is presented as a step beyond traditional supply‑chain transparency, linking product data to after‑sales services.

What was said

Daniela De Siena, digital director at Sealand, told bizcommunity.com that the passport “extends the product experience by providing a platform for gear registration, warranty information, care instructions and lost‑and‑found services.”

How it came about

Sealand’s move follows broader scrutiny of sustainability claims in South Africa, as highlighted in recent Felo News coverage of supply‑chain challenges and fuel‑price impacts on logistics. By making selected product information publicly accessible while protecting commercially sensitive data, Sealand aims to demonstrate responsible production and give visibility to its suppliers.
