Saudi Arabia lifted their fourth Arabian Gulf Cup trophy with a 2‑0 victory over the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Al Jazeera reported.

What happened

Hammam Al‑Hammami opened the scoring in the 11th minute from the edge of the penalty area, sparking celebrations in the stands. Two minutes later, Firas Al‑Buraikan doubled the lead with a close‑range finish after a precise assist from Nasser Al‑Dosari. Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al‑Owais kept a clean sheet, saving a close‑range shot from substitute Sultan Adel early in the second half.

What was said

Head coach Georgios Donis said the team showed focus and discipline despite “many difficulties,” adding that the title would give confidence for the future. He also linked the win to lessons learned after the 2026 World Cup, noting improved level and style of play.

How it came about

Saudi Arabia, who exited the 2026 World Cup at the group stage, used the Gulf Cup as a platform to rebuild ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2027, which the kingdom will host from 7 January to 5 February.
