On Friday, Sangeetha Sornalingam, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay, arrived at Chennai’s Kamala Cinemas with her daughter Divya Saasha to watch the early screening of her son Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, Sigma. The film opened nationwide on 2 October 2026.
What happened
Videos captured Sangeetha and Divya entering the theatre for the premiere, where they were greeted by photographers. Jason Sanjay was also present with his mother and sister. The screening took place shortly after the film’s release date.
What was said
Jason told Gulf News that his father Vijay would not take part in the film’s promotion, saying, “My father is waiting for the release of Sigma. He won’t be promoting my film. I want the promotions to be about the film and not him.” He added that Vijay, now chief minister, has many responsibilities. In a separate interview with Pearle Maaney, Jason said Vijay would likely watch the film and be proud of the debut.
How it came about
Sangeetha had filed a divorce petition against Vijay in February 2026, alleging an extramarital relationship and emotional neglect. She withdrew the petition on 7 August 2026 via video conference, and the court allowed her to file a fresh petition later if needed. The premiere marks her first public appearance in nearly two months.
