Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight, killing at least four civilians, including a child, and damaging energy facilities, Al Jazeera reported.
Kyiv city officials said three people died in the capital, while emergency services confirmed a child was killed in the adjacent area. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attacks targeted the power grid, disrupting electricity supplies in and around the capital.
Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its forces hit power infrastructure in the Kyiv region and a communications facility in the city, as well as port infrastructure in Izmail. Private energy firm DTEK said crews restored electricity to about 8,000 households after the strikes, though parts of the grid remained damaged.
Zelenskyy highlighted additional strikes on critical infrastructure in the Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad and Rivne regions. Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken warned of growing “hybrid threats” and urged faster expansion of European air‑defence capabilities.
