Himachal Pradesh omits kabaddi star Ritu Negi from Rs 1 crore Asian Games reward list

The state’s latest reward list excludes three‑time Asian Games gold medallist Ritu Negi, sparking confusion and a promised review by the sports minister.

Dubai – Himachal Pradesh’s most recent announcement of cash rewards for Asian Games medalists does not include kabaddi star Ritu Negi, Gulf News reported on Oct 8. The list, released after the state raised the reward from Rs 33 lakh to Rs 1 crore per gold medalist, names Pushpa Rana, Jyoti Thakur and Bhavna Thakur but omits Negi, who has won three consecutive Asian Games gold medals.

Negi, an Arjuna awardee from Sirmaur now married and employed by Indian Railways, said she could not understand the sudden removal, telling The Tribune, “I was Himachal’s daughter until a week ago.” Her father, Bhawan Singh Negi, questioned whether her marital status influenced the decision, noting she had already received a cash reward for her 2022 gold.

Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma said he was unaware of the reason and would check the matter with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Negi plans to meet the chief minister for clarification, saying the exclusion makes her feel disowned by the state she has represented.
