Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, aged 15 years, six months and six days, became the youngest Indian to win an Asian Games gold medal in cricket when India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the men’s final at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin, Japan, on Saturday.

Opening the innings, the left‑handed batsman scored 15 runs from nine balls, including two sixes, as India posted 211 for six. Teammates Abhishek Sharma made 61 off 28 balls and Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 51. Pakistan’s chase fell short at 192 for six, despite Hasan Nawaz’s 96 from 51 balls.

The previous youngest Indian gold medallist was shooter Saurabh Chaudhary, who was 16 years, three months and nine days old when he won the men’s 10m air pistol gold at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. Chaudhary’s record remains for individual events, while Sooryavanshi’s achievement is the first for a team sport.
