Rio2 Limited Rebounds from Chilean Winter Storms at Fenix Gold Mine

The company forecasts conditional gold output of 4,000–7,000 ounces for October‑December as it resumes drilling.

Rio2 Limited reported that its Fenix Gold mine in Chile’s Maricunga belt has recovered from a series of heavy snowstorms that halted mining from 17 July to 24 July and again from 10 August to 22 August. The company says the leach pad, process plant and power generators remained intact and operating at reduced capacity, allowing it to keep the site ready for a return to mining.

Rio2 forecasts conditional monthly gold production of 4,000 ounces in October, 6,000 in November and 7,000 in December, assuming minimal further disruption. The company has completed 43 holes for 14,669 m of a planned 21,880 m drilling program and will resume the remaining work in January 2027 during Chile’s summer.

Rio2 attributes the extreme weather to a super El Niño affecting Chile and Peru. The company says it safely evacuated personnel during the storms and that the operation remains on track to reach commercial production in the fourth quarter.
