Hamptons real‑estate developer Peter Mangiameli has filed a counterclaim against three passengers who sued him for $6 million after his yacht struck a Sag Harbor jetty on July 5, Page Six reported.
What happened
According to the lawsuit, Mangiameli was piloting his 2024 Cruisers Yachts vessel, the Déjà Vu, when it slammed into the stone breakwater around 10 p.m., leaving passengers Michail Dokianos, 51, Elena Dokianos, 51, and their daughter Sofia Dokianos, 22, unconscious with broken bones. The family later filed a complaint alleging Mangiameli was drunk and fled the scene.
What the reports add
The counterclaim asserts that Michail Dokianos had agreed to serve as first mate and lookout on the return voyage, responsible for shining a spotlight to spot obstructions. Mangiameli alleges Dokianos was “significantly impaired,” dropped the spotlight and failed to retrieve it, and also mishandled mooring lines, contributing to the collision and the vessel’s damage.
What was said
The filing states Mangiameli seeks reimbursement for the boat’s damage, salvage expenses, legal fees and any costs if the family’s suit succeeds. He denies the allegations of intoxication, gross negligence and fleeing the scene. Page Six noted it has reached out to Mangiameli and the Dokianos for comment.
How it came about
The original lawsuit stemmed from the July 5 incident, which left the Dokianos family with severe injuries. Mangiameli, who markets luxury estates to high‑net‑worth clients, now argues the passengers’ own negligence caused the crash and the ensuing financial losses.
