PayJustNow adds health and everyday retail to its BNPL portfolio

The provider now offers instalment payments for medical services and everyday purchases, citing high transaction values and strong repayment rates.

PayJustNow announced on 16 Oct 2026 that its buy‑now‑pay‑later (BNPL) service is now available for health‑care and everyday retail purchases across South Africa, the company said.

What happened

The platform, which serves about 4.5 million customers, recorded its highest‑ever transaction value in July and reports that active users employed the service an average of 5.08 times over the previous 12 months. Payment completion is reported at more than 98 % of total transaction value.

Through a partnership with Netcare Medicross, users can now pay for general‑practice visits, dental work, diagnostics and emergency services using PayJustNow. In the retail sector, the service has rolled out nationwide at Ackermans after a pilot that began in December 2025, covering items such as clothing and school uniforms. An online launch on OneDayOnly also went live in October, adding another channel for planned purchases.

What the reports add

Bizcommunity notes that the expansion reflects a broader trend of BNPL providers seeking relevance beyond occasional online fashion buys. It also points out that while transaction volumes are rising, the data do not prove whether BNPL improves household affordability or alters overall spending patterns.

What was said

Dean Hyde, chief operating officer of PayJustNow, told Bizcommunity that consumers are “under pressure and are thinking more carefully about how a purchase fits alongside everything else they need to pay for that month.” He added that users can see the cost and repayment schedule up front, helping them manage cash flow.

How it came about

The move follows a period of strong growth for the company, with July’s record transaction value and a high repeat‑use rate. Inflation stood at 4.4 % in August, and rising fuel and recurring costs have kept household budgets tight, prompting PayJustNow to broaden its offering to sectors where instalment payments can ease immediate financial strain.
