Boxer Retail Limited said its turnover grew 6.3% to R24.1 billion for the 26 weeks ended 30 August 2026, the first half of its 2027 financial year, according to Bizcommunity.
During the same period the grocery discounter posted an 8.1% rise in trading profit to R1 billion and a 10.6% increase in profit before tax and capital items to R774 million. Headline earnings rose 9.1% to R565 million and like‑for‑like sales grew 1.4%, implying a 3.8% volume increase.
Boxer reached a 600‑store milestone, adding 24 new outlets in the half‑year – nine Boxer Superstores and 15 Boxer Liquor stores – and had opened 32 stores year‑to‑date by 30 September. The retailer is on track for its FY27 target of 60 new stores.
Internal selling‑price deflation was 2.4%, below the 2% food and non‑alcoholic beverage inflation reported by Statistics South Africa. Other income jumped 34.7% to R260 million, driven by the B‑Inside supplier portal and the early contribution from B‑Media, its retail‑media platform.
Trading expenses rose 10.2% to R4.2 billion, reflecting the store rollout and higher energy and advertising costs, but a 0.5‑percentage‑point improvement in gross‑profit margin lifted the trading‑profit margin to 4.2%.
Boxer’s net cash position, excluding lease liabilities, increased to R2.3 billion from R700 million at 1 March 2026. Headline earnings per share rose 9.2% and the company declared an interim dividend of 49.93 cents per share, a 40% payout ratio.
CEO Marek Masojada said the group will keep investing in price, expanding into underserved communities and managing costs as consumers face ongoing financial pressure.
