India’s food market is estimated at US$550‑600 billion and expanding at a 6‑7% compound annual growth rate, experts said on Friday.

Devesh Deval, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, said economic growth and urbanisation underpin the expansion. Martina Englhardt‑Kopf, Germany’s vice‑minister of food and agriculture, linked the India‑EU free‑trade agreement to a market of two billion people and liberalised trade covering 99.3% of EU and 96.6% of India’s trade value. Milind Dixit, MD of Koelnmesse’s India & SAARC region, noted the sector reached about US$382 billion in FY 2025 and could approach US$689 billion by FY 2034, with processed food now over 20% of agricultural exports.
