Mumtaz Begum of Tallamudi village in Pedapadu mandal, Andhra Pradesh, runs a home‑based vermicelli unit that now supplies customers in Hyderabad and overseas locations such as Dubai, the United States and Malaysia, according to a New Indian Express report dated 11 Oct 2026.
What happened
Begun two years ago after buying a packet of vermicelli in Vijayawada, the business secured a Rs 2 lakh loan from Chaitanya Godavari Bank with the bank manager’s guidance. A single vermicelli‑making machine produces about 15 kg per batch, which Begum dries in the sun before packing.
What the report adds
The unit’s breakthrough came during Ramzan when Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar placed an order worth Rs 1 lakh for roughly 1,500 packets. Following that order, Begum expanded sales to Hyderabad and began shipping consignments abroad. She employs at least seven workers at Rs 500 a day and engages additional help during peak periods. Her husband and second son assist daily, while her elder son works in Dubai as an air‑conditioner repair specialist.
What was said
"I bought vermicelli in Vijayawada and thought, why could I not make it myself? I decided to start the work in my hometown," Begum told the New Indian Express.
How it came about
Begum’s venture grew from a simple idea to a modest enterprise that also rents out the machine to other producers when her own output is low. She plans to shift the unit from Tallamudi to Hanuman Junction to improve market access.
