Oman has laid the foundation stone for a OMR5.775 million tourism and commercial development on Masirah Island, the Oman News Agency reported on 13 October 2026.
What happened
The development, undertaken by United Real Estate Company in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, will cover about 60,000 sq m. It will include a 20‑room tourist lodge, more than 40 villas and chalets, a traditional souq, a multipurpose hall, landscaped gardens, green spaces and pedestrian walkways.
What the reports add
The ONA description emphasizes that the project is designed to capitalise on the island’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, with the aim of diversifying the governorate’s tourism portfolio and attracting both domestic and international visitors.
What was said
The agency said the investment is part of broader efforts to position South Al Sharqiyah as an attractive destination for tourism and commercial investment, while making greater use of the region’s natural, cultural and heritage assets.
How it came about
The initiative follows Oman’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its tourism infrastructure under Vision 2040, echoing earlier investment drives such as the Muscat Municipality’s waterfront schemes announced earlier in October.
