New York City’s Conflicts of Interest Board (COIB) reported that Bridget Garzaniti, principal of the High School of Arts and Technology, approved nearly 200 hours of overtime worth $12,000 for her domestic partner, Curtis Williams, in 2024 while he worked under her supervision.
Garzaniti also wrote a letter recommending Williams for tenure, which the Department of Education approved in June 2024. The COIB fined Garzaniti $7,500 and ordered Williams to repay $4,250.
Garzaniti and Williams have lived together since June 2017 and share a child born that August, the September COIB report noted. Critics called for further discipline from Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels, and CUNY Graduate Center professor David Bloomfield said the tenure decision “demeans those actually deserving.”
