Incumbent mayor Mike Hurley was re‑elected for a third term in Burnaby, receiving 19,126 votes in the city’s preliminary results, dailyhive.com reported.
Burnaby First candidate Heymann Yip placed second with 6,120 votes, while other challengers Sabina Hsu, Bill Petrovas, Hanzhi Wang, and Yusuf Kaplan (listed as Michael Angelo ABCRobinHood) trailed further behind.
Hurley first entered municipal politics in 2018, defeating long‑time mayor Derek Corrigan, and ran unopposed in 2022. He also chairs the Metro Vancouver Regional District board, a role under scrutiny for rising costs and major projects.
For his new term, Hurley pledged to add 1,000 affordable rental homes and to press the provincial government to repeal Bills 25, 44 and 47, which allow up to six homes on a single‑family lot.
