Maine Wire reporter says driver tried to run him over outside Bangor clinic
Joe Sokol recorded a license plate and called police after a driver tried to ram his vehicle near a methadone clinic in Bangor, Maine.

Reporter Joe Sokol of The Maine Wire said a driver confronted him and attempted to strike his vehicle outside the Bangor Comprehensive Treatment Center, also known as Discovery House BR Inc., on Odlin Road in Bangor, Maine. The incident was captured on video, and Sokol recorded the license plate before reporting the matter to the Bangor Police Department.
Sokol told the outlet the driver appeared intoxicated and that the confrontation was linked to Sokol’s reporting on the clinic, which the outlet says receives nearly $25 million from Medicaid. The Maine Wire’s editor‑in‑chief, Steve Robinson, said the driver identified Sokol as a journalist and tried to stop his reporting, characterising the act as an attempted killing. Sokol was not injured after moving out of the vehicle’s path.
The outlet posted the video and a phone call with the suspect, who admitted targeting Sokol because of his reporting. The Maine Wire announced it will air the audio on its live show on X at 4 PM.
