Joe Sokol, a reporter for the Maine Wire, says he was almost run over by a car after confronting a man outside the Bangor Comprehensive Treatment Center, a taxpayer‑funded methadone clinic in Bangor, Maine, on Thursday.
Sokol filmed the encounter, during which the driver accused him of invading patients’ privacy. The reporter replied that he was in a public space reporting on the clinic. The driver then accelerated toward Sokol, who backed away to avoid a collision. Security footage released by the Maine Wire shows the vehicle coming within inches of the reporter, and Sokol recites the suspect’s license‑plate numbers as the car drives off.
In a comment to Fox News Digital, Sokol said police were notified and arrived at the scene. He identified the suspect but did not confirm whether the driver had been detained. Sokol added that this incident is not isolated; he cited a prior assault that led to a charge later dropped, and he claims an active death‑threat investigation has been pending with the district attorney for over a month.
The clinic’s female owner accused Sokol of trying to intimidate staff and asked him to leave the property. Sokol maintains he was conducting a legitimate investigation into the clinic’s operations.
