A 17‑year‑old student identified as Xavier Nungarary died on Wednesday after falling from a fourth‑floor railing at Benjamin Franklin High School in Highland Park, Los Angeles, during the school day, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Videos obtained by the New York Post show a classroom confrontation that a teacher attempts to break up, followed by another student punching Xavier in the face. The aggressor can be heard shouting, “Run, n****, run.” Seconds later, a second video appears to capture Xavier going over the railing. Police officers arrived at the school around 1 p.m. after a report of a juvenile death, and the teen was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The LAPD is treating the incident as a death investigation and says there is no evidence of foul play, though investigators are aware of the circulating videos. Xavier’s stepmother told CBS LA that he had experienced bullying throughout high school but was “hesitant to speak up.”
Family members created a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs, describing him as a “beautiful, caring, and loving boy.” His mother, Lilia Nungaray, wrote that losing a child is “an unimaginable pain.”
