Academy Award‑winning composer Kris Bowers will write the original score for Disney’s animated feature “Hexed,” Variety reported on Oct. 19. The film, directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, stars Hailee Steinfeld, Rashida Jones, Jodie Foster and Walton Goggins and is slated to open in theaters on Nov. 25.
Bowers explained that the score was built around “exploration and experimentation,” using unconventional instruments such as bird‑call whistles, wind wands, nose flutes, bottles, kazoos and recordings of actual birds turned into instruments. He said the music blends an orchestra, an effected chamber woodwind ensemble, synths and natural sound elements to capture the film’s emotional mother‑daughter journey and its magical realm.
In addition to “Hexed,” Bowers previously scored Netflix’s animated film “Steps,” the Paramount/Skydance drama “Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story,” and a documentary for Breakwater Studios.
