Variety said the Cannes‑premiered queer animated comedy Jim Queen added a fresh round of international sales after its Asian debut at the Busan International Film Festival.

What happened

Global Constellation, the sales arm of pan‑European studio Vuelta, announced deals with Prorom for the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, and secured first‑window pay‑TV and SVOD rights in Eastern Europe for HBO. Additional territories were sold to Folkets Bio (Sweden), AS Fidalgo (Norway), Films4You (Portugal) and CDI/LAT‑E (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay). A South Korean deal is still under negotiation.

What the reports add

The new territories join earlier sales to I Wonder Pictures (Italy), O’Brother (Benelux), Capelight Pictures (Germany), Praesens (Switzerland), Polyfilm (Austria), Elastica/Filmin (Spain), Lev Cinema (Israel), Madman (Australia and New Zealand), Photon Films (Canada), Pandora Filmes/Belas Artes Grupo (Brazil), Pimienta Films (Mexico) and Creative Century (Taiwan). Creative Century Distribution will open the film in Taiwanese cinemas on Oct. 23, and Global Constellation is weighing U.S. offers for a 2027 release.

What was said

Variety quoted festival chief Thierry Frémaux, who called the Cannes screening “one of the most beautiful in the festival’s history in terms of atmosphere.” The outlet also included critic Guy Lodge’s review, noting the film’s humor and animation style reminiscent of “South Park.”

How it came about

The film, set in Paris, follows gym‑obsessed influencer Jim whose status collapses when a virus called Heterosis turns gay men heterosexual. English‑language voices for Jim and Lucien were recently revealed as Jordan Firstman and Matteo Lane. The movie entered the French box‑office at No. 3 behind Toy Story 5 and Backrooms, logging over 385,000 admissions and more than $3 million in revenue.
