Kerala is on high alert as Cyclone Arnab gathers strength in the Bay of Bengal, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red alerts for Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts on Sunday, Oct 25.
IMD director Neetha K Gopal told the New Indian Express that the low‑pressure area over the Arabian Sea is interacting with Arnab and is expected to intensify by Oct 26, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state until Monday. She added that rain activity should ease after Oct 27, followed by a rapid rise in temperatures due to an El Niño‑related warming trend.
The state has recorded 230.1 mm of rain in October so far, 6 % below the normal 244.4 mm, with districts such as Idukki, Kasaragod and Malappuram still rain‑deficient.
