World number one Jannik Sinner announced on Instagram that he will miss the Rolex Shanghai Masters, citing a knee injury that has kept him out since his Wimbledon triumph in July.
Sinner, 25, has not played since Wimbledon, skipping the US Open and the ATP 500 event in Beijing. The Masters 1000 tournament runs from Wednesday to October 18 and features a strong field, including Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and others.
Sinner’s withdrawal could open the door for Zverev, who can move to the top of the rankings by winning both the China Open in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters.
