Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded that the Pakistani government provide relief on petroleum prices, warning that the party could resume its long march if the request is denied. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Naeem said the protest had only been paused after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s assurance, and that JI would seek direct talks with the prime minister upon his return.

Naeem also called for the release of political prisoners detained since the May 9 events, naming Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Mahmoodur Rashid, and highlighted health concerns among those prisoners. He criticised ongoing political tensions for diverting attention from ordinary citizens’ issues and reiterated that JI’s demands are not limited to any single party’s agenda.
