According to Gizmodo, Universal Studios is reportedly considering director J.A. Bayona for the sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth after Gareth Edwards left the project earlier this year over creative differences.
Bayona, who directed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in 2018, is said to be "at the top of Universal’s wishlist" according to The InSight. The studio’s producers, including Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall, have previously praised Bayona’s work on the franchise.
Bayona told io9 in 2018, "When you do a film like this you put yourself at the service of the story… you put your craft at the service of the world that has been established already by other directors." He also explained his view of middle‑chapter storytelling, saying, "When you think about a trilogy, the second episode is when things get more complicated and it’s very exciting as a director."
The upcoming sequel could continue the trend of strong box‑office returns, with the previous film earning roughly $340 million domestically and $869 million worldwide.
